Parity Index Revisions Shape Farm Price Policy
The Parity index undergoes a complete restudy mirroring the 1953 CPI revision. The 1933 Agricultural Adjustment Act base period 1910-1914 defined parity, later altered by Congress to reflect interest rates, taxes, and freight. The 1954 law advances a moving base, with mandatory transition for basic crops to a new base, starting January 1, 1986.
