Probers Denied Loyalty Files in Senate Inquiry
Washington February 24 Republicans threaten a court fight to obtain loyalty files for a Senate inquiry into Communist ties at the State Department. Senator Wherry urged prosecuting Secretary Acheson for contempt, while President Truman stood by a policy not to release confidential employee files. McCarthy questioned the move, calling it an evident attempt to cover up Communists. The Senate previously authorized subpoenas for the loyalty files.

Emergency board named to study rail dispute
President Truman created an emergency fact finding board to study the dispute between railroad carriers and the Brotherhoods of Railway Conductors and Railroad Trainmen. The board will delay a nationwide strike set for Monday by six days as it probes the issues with the eastern, western, and southeastern carriers conference committees. Names of the board members will be announced later. The Brotherhoods said they will comply with Railway Labor Act procedures.
