Seven policemen shot killed over weekend

Seven policemen in five cities were shot and killed over the weekend. Philadelphia's police commissioner blamed citizens for promoting anarchy in the city after two teenagers were charged with murder in a patrolman’s death. The weekend also saw a marshal and a state trooper killed in Indiana, an officer shot in Greenville South Carolina, and another killed by gunfire from a two cent car in Miami.

Tornado Toll Rises to 74 Across Mississippi Delta

Dozens of violent tornadoes struck the Mississippi River delta Sunday night leaving 74 dead and hundreds injured. Mississippi accounts totaled most fatalities with 68, Louisiana six, while east Texas saw no deaths. Rural Trailer Fire Leaves 10 Homeless

A family of ten was left homeless when a combination house trailer on Qrmsbee Road, Concord Township, burned to the ground. The stove replacement earlier that day apparently malfunctioned. Firemen from Elgin Beaverdam and Corry responded with multiple units and personnel. The family, staying with a neighbor, received help from the Salvation Army and Red Cross for clothing and bedding. no insurance was reported.

Manry of Tinkerbelle dies at 52 in Union City

Robert Manry, famed for crossing the Atlantic in 1965 aboard the 13.5 foot Tinkerbelle, died of a heart attack aged 52. He sailed from Flamouth Mars to England in 78 days, later became a best selling author and public speaker, and had worked as a copy editor in Cleveland.
