Pioneer Frampton and Sample families of Columbus Township
Nathaniel Frampton, Revolutionary War veteran born in 1748 Northumberland County, joined the struggle and settled with English families in 1790s Northwestern Pennsylvania. The Framptons established near Sample Flats Columbus, built a log cabin, and endured hardship until crops failed 1805–1806. John Sample, first settler, supplied long-leaf fields with an improvised harrow. Frampton and Sample buried in Spring Creek Cemetery. 1824 juryman selection noted in Warren County murder trial.
