Two more jury prospects in Jack Ruby’s murder trial were excused after saying they would not vote for the death penalty if Ruby is convicted. The jurors, Richardson and Jones, brought the total excused to five and six. Judge Brown and lawyers plan to convene a new panel next week if needed, as no jurors have been seated.
A major storm dumped up to 25 inches in central Pennsylvania with heavy falls in Chambersburg Huntsdale Harrisburg and Pottsville while areas east and west saw lighter amounts. The Weather Bureau noted a narrow NE band and temps mostly in the 20s. Road closures were limited though drifting and wind created impassable areas in spots.

Crews from Union City and nearby departments battled the blaze for about three hours after a night watchman sounded the alarm at 3 a.m. Fire began in a rag container on the loading dock and spread up the inner wall to the third floor, with sprinklers on the first and second floors releasing thousands of gallons before being shut off.
Harrisburg AP The Senate Labor and Industry Committee will meet Tuesday to begin work on Scranton administration unemployment compensation reform. Chairman D Elmer Hawbaker cites need for facts over opinions and may invite labor reps opposing the bill.

In Erie an auto crash killed Lynne Anne Fehlman 16 and left Barbara Rogala 16 seriously injured. Authorities later corrected the identities after Rogala was mistaken for Fehlman at St. Vincent's Hospital and the morgue.
A truck collision near Minneapolis left a car wrecked after a semitrailer. A bystander reached into the wreckage to check on a girl in the vehicle.
An explosion ripped the front of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Lower Gwynedd Township near Ambler causing about 10 000 dollars in damage. Police say a bomb likely caused the blast that shattered stone steps and windows while choir members left moments earlier. The church, founded in 1888, serves 350 members and has no history of racial violence. A series of related bombings occurred in the area in the past month.

The committee included Clifford Taylor and Albert Cole with past chairs Frank Dodd James St George and James Allyn. The job is full time, based in the YMCA building.

James H. Meredith, first Black graduate to break the Mississippi color barrier, warned St Joseph's College students that 1964 could see a civil conflict over white supremacy.
