Pinchot Wins House Probe Clash Over PSC Inquiry
In Harrisburg Pa on February 17 the Pennsylvania House voted 129 to 65 to start a separate probe into the Public Service Commission and utilities, independent of a Senate inquiry. Governor Pinchot and allies pushed the move, with Rep Glenn W Moore guiding the measure and plans for a seven member committee to hear from a governor designated public panel. The Senate already began hearings, and a clash of authority between House and Senate probes is anticipated.

How Bonus Loan Bill Will Aid Corry Vets
World War veterans in Corry and vicinity followed Congress on the veterans loan proposal. The House passed a bill boosting loan privileges to 50 percent of adjusted service certificates, cutting interest to 4.5 percent compounded annually, and allowing recovery of certificates pledged to banks to enable additional borrowing up to 50 percent at the lower rate. The act would draw from a $722 million sinking fund to retire certificates in 1945 and authorize needed appropriations. About 3.4 million certificates totaling roughly $133.423 billion exist, with current loan value at $780 million rising to $1.719 billion under the bill. Proponents estimate costs near $275 million to $70 million range, with about half of veterans likely to request loans.
