Probe Planned Into Illegal Liquor Sales in Fourth Ward

Great Fire in Madison Destroys Gould Walls Blackburn Plant

A major blaze in Madison Wisconsin destroyed the Gould Walls Blackburn Company plant within a week of an earlier fire. The entire establishment and oxle plant were wiped out, with losses around 100000 dollars. Firefighters gained control near noon after hours of effort.

Mrs Stone Dies in Pittsburgh Today

A telegram from Pittsburgh reports the sudden death of Mrs. Stone wife of Hon Nattian Stone of Flist Avenue. She spent a short time with her son George Stone in Pittsburgh and suffered a pneumonia attack about a week ago. A trained nurse attended her, efforts to help were made, and the telegram announced her death this morning. Mrs Pauline Stone distotte tee and Mr Harry Stone of Pittsburgh are listed as her family. Funeral arrangements and body transportation to the city were not yet known.

Wheat prices break to near ten dollars a bushel

A market note reports wheat prices slipping to about ten dollars and a half per bushel after reopening this morning, with July futures also affected. A partial rebound later lifted values near one dollar and fifty cents.

Prisoners Sentenced By Court In Erie Term

Special to Journal Erie Pa Feb 18 two Corry defendants were sentenced this afternoon along with others from the present term. Bar Spencer pleaded guilty to stealing chickens and received sixty days in the county jail. Dame Buyes pleaded guilty to a statutory offense and was fined 50 dollars and committed to the county jail until payment. Other sentences include Martin five months for larceny Richards three to four years for theft Peterson two to four years for theft Halboc two to five years for larceny Conway North and Halil two to seven years for car robbery Farino Colino three years How on Hiatington Reformatory Quin one to six years Hunt six months Rogger burglary with unspecified sentence.

Germany Threatening Retaliation over Wilhelmina Cargo

United Press reports Washington, February 18, that Germany warns of severe retaliation if Britain continues to starve Germany’s civil population. Ambassador Von Bornstein conveyed the Kaiser’s message to Secretary Bryan and Secretary Lansing. The threat follows a dispute over prize court action concerning the food cargo of the Wilhelmina bound to Germany.

Inspectorie County State Equipment Inspection Complete

Yesterday J. B. Sampson of Harrisburg chief inspector and deputy Diff of Warren conducted a thorough check of tools and equipment overseen by Co. Supt. L. B. VanVieck. The inspection found everything in excellent condition for the spring state highway work in the district.

Reception Celebrates Corry High School Class

The annual Junior Class reception at Corry High School was held in the Presbyterian chapel with both classes, the Board of Education, and faculty in attendance. A formal banquet featured yellow and white decor, a full menu, and a toast program. The event concluded with a class dance at Knights of Pythias Hall, where the two classes celebrated late into the night.

Valentine Party at Methodist Church Draws Large Crowd
