Kane Pa February 16 a group of nine magazine solicitors led by W H Cranshaw circulated a counterfeit offer charging 49 cents for a 4 50 subscription and urged residents to buy. Police and Mayor DeGeller detained them after Chief Mooney rounded up the nine and sent them on. Bradford and DuBois reports linked similar scams.
An old hair dye remedy Wyeths Sulphur Hair Nemessy claims to restore natural color, giving a dark, even shade with one small bottle priced about 50 cents. The ad promotes a safe home use with simple brushing and says it won’t damage hair. A separate hospital notice reports Franklin hospital, reopened after a dec infection scare, with health official Dr. J. P. Strayer stating no further danger of scarlet fever or contagion.
