Joe Lamair a 40 year old section hand on the Erie Railroad was killed when a westbound Erie freight train mangled him yesterday. Officials ruled the death accidental after an investigation noting the man stepped from one track into another in the path of a passing train. Lamair of Concord will be taken to Spartan for burial with services at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Officers of the Corry Motor Club report backing from the Pennsylvania Motor Federation to secure state aid for constructing East Columbus avenue and to place Corry Spartansburg and Columbus Bear Lake roads on the state primary system. The federation also opposes a gas tax increase, citing $36 million in licenses as sufficient. motorists are urged to join the fight against the tax increase.
A grand jury in Erie yesterday afternoon returned a no bill in the case of A B Foster of Erie charged with assault and battery on Carl Peterson of Euclid Street. Peterson had accused Foster of attacking him two weeks ago. Foster waived hearing and his case goes to the grand jury, but the jury returned a discharge. Franz, uncle of the Peterson youth, had a civil suit against Poster, with a verdict in Carl Franz favor. The case was heard earlier at a civil court in Erie.
Franke Hockman, son of an Alderman, admitted planning the Knox bank robbery at Knoxton with accomplices including Samuel Bai. State Troopers recovered $8000 as the gang faced arrest after betrayal by “Red Smith.” Hockman claimed leadership and a broader conspiracy, with sentences potentially up to 20 years under assembly laws.
State troopers and local police conduct raids along the rail line areas. Three men Ralph Garaceno James Tims Pete Gites were arrested on buys and held at 1600 dollar bail each, despite no liquor found on site. Prosecutions await arraignment before Alderman G I Givon.
