John P. Donofrio, 27, a former U S Postal Service letter carrier, pleaded guilty to stealing and cashing six government checks on his route. He received six concurrent three year probation terms, a $1000 fine, and restitution of $575. He admitted forging signatures on two checks in June 1974 and cashing them at a local club, plus cashing a third check from another resident. Investigators cited a sworn statement alleging bartenders at a local lab cashed the checks, leading to dropped charges against the bartenders for lack of evidence.
