Two Americans land on the moon after late launch scare
Alan B. Shepard Jr and Edgar D Mitchell became the fifth and sixth Americans to walk on the lunar surface at Fra Mauro in Apollo 12. They manually guided Antares to a safe touchdown after a computer glitch nearly aborted the mission. Roosa orbited Kitty Hawk 70 miles above as NASA celebrated the first color lunar views and prepared for further science work and a Cone crater geology trek.

Embargo Off Raises Questions About Vietnam War News
Washington reports that the lifting of the toughest Vietnam wartime blackout left Americans in the dark about new allied actions in northwestern South Vietnam and Laos. Officials offered little detail, stressing the move was the first phase of a broader operation and noting no U.S. troops were at the Laos border. The press embargo remains controversial as lawmakers seek clarity amid ongoing war coverage. Also, Moscow says it will donate 75 million doses of vaccine to the World Health Organization over three years.
