Fire Preceded Fatal Blast At Georgia Munitions Plant

A Thiokol plant worker injured in a blast that killed 24 says she saw fire before the explosion. Lillie Mae Rainey, 18, witnessed flames in a steel trailer area where magnesium flares were made and described debris and a roof collapse. Fire raged over an hour as responders fought to control the blaze. several injured remained in critical condition.

Drive-In Robbers Get Up To 6 Years

Two Indiana men faces Erie County charges for the Corry Drive-In robbery were sentenced in Crawford County court to nine months to six years in prison for the attempted armed robbery of a Riceville restaurant. David A. Yurkey and Donald P. Stile, both 19, former Edinboro State College students, had prior terms and await transfer to the Western Diagnostic and Classification Center.

Corry School District Faces Subsidy Cut With Cushions

The Corry Area School Jointure should weather an 85 percent state subsidy cut due in April. Corry relies on a year end cushion and a one percent city income tax split with the school district, projected to yield about 320000 this year. Officials say disbursement can be front loaded if needed, with PSBA outlining three options if funds run short.

SW Paint Store Razed In Oil City Fire

An early morning blaze destroyed a Sherwin Williams paint store and warehouse along with four nearby businesses in Oil City. Firemen responded at 2 30 a.m. and battled the nearly block long, two story structure for about four hours, bringing the fire under control at 6 30 a.m. No injuries were reported and officials have not estimated damages or determined a cause.

Boy Faces Murder Rap In Fatal Schoolyard Scuffle

A 16 year old boy, named Mark, is to be arraigned on a general murder charge over a fatal scuffle with 17 year old Mc Fadden at Weal Aleghtay High School in Allegheny County. The coroner's office notes the incident occurred last night and identifies the defendant as the alleged participant.
