Washington reports a heavy flow of private investment capital is expected as signs of monetary stability appear. Officials believe billions can be coaxed from hiding in short term securities to finance the recovery program, shifting financing from government to private investors as dollar stability grows and banks step in.
Good roads boosters in Western Crawford are urged to attend a meeting at the Hotel Little Cooley Tuesday evening. Plans will be made to launch a movement to complete Route 17 from Little Cooley to Riceville and the Spar tansburg to Erie county line stretch to ward the city. Delegations from Cet terville Spartansburg and Lincolnville expected and action on two road jobs this Spring will be sought. Erie announcement noted Beaverdam Wattsburg road improvements hoped for early spring.
U S gold reserves rose to 7,019,914,111.63 dollars per February 5, gaining 1,650,185.93 from the prior day after a revaluation to 35 dollars per ounce. Most of the increase is said to come from domestic hoards with no official explanation.

Dr F G Henke head of the educational department at Allegheny College will address the Corry Teachers Association for Rotary Club and Board of Education members at the Junior High tonight at 7. The Meadville speaker is expected to deliver a strong message as the association has planned a fine program with music group singing sketches a short farce and group games. Refreshments will be served at 10 PM with cards.
Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania reports prospects for ending the anthracite miners strike by Wednesday. Thomas Maloney, president of the United Anthracite Miners of Pennsylvania, says a special convention of the insurgent union will be held to urge resumption of strikes. Appointment of Janice Av Gormimy to the dd judge in the anthracite labor trouble is noted as satisfactory by Mooney, who says the strike’s outcome depends on these actions.
United Press reports Sen. Wagner and Rep. Lewis introduced a federal unemployment insurance bill aiming to spur state programs and reduce mass unemployment. It would tax employers by payroll with exemptions for agriculture and firms under five workers. President Roosevelt showed no firm commitment while signaling sympathy for the aim.
Four suspects are in custody in connection with a $130000 bank robbery in Pennsgrove New Jersey last week. John Farley of New York City Charles Kent of Canton Ohio Harry Greenberg and his wife Rose of Philadelphia were arrested in Camden. Remaining gang members with $50001 in their possession hid on a roof while detectives hunted them in South Philadelphia. A further search followed the discovery of footprints in the snow.
In Oklahoma a wave of violence ends with Police Chief Tom Brumey and Patrolman C P Lloyd dead after a Sapulpa gun battle with outlaws. Four gang members Aussie Eliott Raymond Moon Eldon Wilson Stumley Lidgil Hiell Moore slain in the firefight. Deputy Sheriff Powell and Newt Clanton wounded. two burglars killed in Chelsea pistol duel. A late-night chase across farms and hardware store ambushes marked the deadly weekend.
Prohibition law violators numbered since that 13 000 who were indicted before repeal of the 15th amendment today won amnesty from the supreme court. The court affirmed a North Carolina federal court ruling that with repeal the federal courts were powerless to entertain dry law cages hanging over from pre repeal days. The ruling was necessary as it was the first time such a situation arose. Old common law provided that when a law is repealed penalties on violators remained in force unless the repealing act specifically withdrew the penalties.
In Alquippa Pennsylvania on February 6 Joseph D Agostino an unemployed man went on a shooting spree inside his barricaded home He fatally wounded his wife and shot his two daughters Anna 22 and Elizabeth 16 Both girls were rushed to Rochester General Hospital in unknown condition Authorities used tear gas to force entry D Agostino was found dead by his bed from gunshot wounds The incident ends with police returning fire and ending the standoff

Harrisburg February 5 The hearing on the commonwealths temporary injunction against U S internal revenue collectors seeking to prevent federal taxes on state liquor stores and stocks was continued indefinitely by Judge William M Hargest in Dauphin County Court The delay was granted as Attorney General William A Schnader was busy on another Philadelphia case The injunction sought to block about 1 million dollars in levies on the state stores and their stocks by three collectors Alvin F Pix Philadelphia Loo G Mindy Scranton and David Lawrence Pittsburgh under new federal law effective January 12 the government tax on liquor was increased and license fees levied on each retail establishment The measure would affect 237 distilleries 3100 and other related charges
Clarvence Wadsworth, 60, a former Johns town police officer, was found frozen to death today in an unoccupied house he owned. He had gone there last week to sleep during a severe cold wave and was found by one of his two sons. he had been separated from his family.
A 500 pound safe containing $700 was spirited away from Farrell Pa at the Mic Gorman Club. Police believe thieves hid the safe in the building until the club closed Saturday night, then loaded it into a waiting truck and fled with confederates.
