Cochran fights to keep Erie WPA staff intact
Bernard Cochran, Erie area WPA director, challenged State Director Edward N. Jones to preserve about five administrative staffers in northwestern Pennsylvania. Jones ordered a cut of at least 42 employees to meet the district budget, while Cochran urged funding to maintain payrolls and adjust wages locally. He argues the Erie district requires extra staff to handle project delays and clerical tasks, aiming to keep workers on the payroll even if pay amounts fall.
