A wage scale committee of the United Mine Workers Convention proposes a two year contract for the central competitive field coal mines in western Pennsylvania Ohio Indiana and Illinois. The report sends negotiating authority to the joint conference in Miami February 14 next with operators to decide renewal of the Jacksonville agreement or seek wage increases. The term of the new contract would be two years with referendum approval by the union. The Jacksonville agreement expires March 9 1945 and sets seven dollars fifty cents base pay in the bituminous industry.
