Abbey Attacks Hiring of Meter Maid by City Leader
Councilman and finance head Guy Abbey blasted Mayor Philip Zalzneck over hiring a new meter maid at $1.20 per hour before wage provisions were set. Abbey challenged the process claiming the mayor’s committee held interviews without council input, and that the council was bypassed. He noted the committee included Police Chief Harley Drake, Sgt Frank Carnegie, and City Engineer David Johnson, who said the mayor only received recommendations while maintaining final authority. The dispute raises questions about hiring procedures and council authority.
