Washington School PTA reports improvements this week to second floor exit access. Superintendent Lawrence Douglas says fire protection updates include asbestos fireproofing in the cloak room to retard fire spread and keep passage to the fire escape open. Additional improvements are planned for the Third Ward School during holidays.

Harry S. Bowman officiated at the burial service for the late Mrs Francella Kaupp yesterday at 2 PM from Bracken-Keating Funeral Home. Fear 17 Killed In Plane Crash Near Mar Del Plata
A night-flying passenger plane crashed near a major highway 20 miles north of Mar Del Plata. Initial reports listed 1 dead, later police estimated up to 17 fatalities with one survivor, an eight year old girl. A motorcycle officer witnessed the plane lose altitude and burst into flames before crashing and splitting apart.
