Safe robber foiled in bid to escape in Beaver County
Joseph Mickucki, 64, of Rochester, Pa., just sentenced to 10 to 20 years, bolted from the Beaver County Court House trial room. Deputy Lloyd H. Pinkerton pounced from a staircase railing, tackling Mickucki on the central stairs and ending the escape. Pinkerton suffered a sprained wrist and bruises. Christmas Island is noted as a large Pacific atoll with 184 square miles of land.

In Jamestown a corner of the three story Hotel Samuels wing collapsed during wall bulge while workers planned to move a storage tank to a basement excavation. Court invalidates city restaurant grading law
In Pittsburgh a county court ruled the citys new restaurant grading ordinance unenforceable under state law.
