Discovery of Burned Bridge Narrowly Averted Disaster

Conductor Taylor of Extra freight train No 6294 on the Buffalo and Pittsburgh Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad discovered a long wooden bridge over Old Creek two miles south of Spartansburg was burning last night and raised an alarm to avert a potential rail disaster. The slow freight had a sluggish pace as crewmembers saw the burning timbers and several had already gone. Wrecking crews from Olity were sent but arrived too late to save more than a portion of the structure, and traffic over the ring wilt was halted.
