A morning blaze destroyed the Bennett home and adjoining garage on the former Lawrence Colegrove farm two miles south of the city. Mrs Bennett, confined by illness, upset a lamp and attempted to douse the flames. The house and garage burned completely, furnishings saved, car removed, neighbors sheltered the family, and the barn escaped. Insurance coverage is believed partial.

Fugitive Donald Hamilton Eludes Capture in Maryland
Hagerstown Md Dec 29 Donald Hamilton 22 percent who escaped from the Maryland prison farm yesterday remains at large today. He was serving a five year sentence for larceny. Hamilton is the third inmate to escape since the prison opened last spring with only one of the escapees recaptured.

Frank Valentine of Chicago Heights and Lorenz Capelli of Steger, both sentenced to 20 years for a Dunkirk bank robbery, led the charges. A gunfight with a posse ended with Reinhold Fleuker slain and Albert Probatta awaiting trial. A mistaken identity led to Fleuker’s burial at Ravine without ceremony. Rodier Soap Plant Destroyed By Fire
A fire destroyed the Rodier soap plant in Centerville on Monday after a VAL of material overheated during production. The blast and flames consumed the rear of the Rodity residence area. Radice and an assistant escaped injury as the building and stock, including soap and grease, burned with heavy smoke and the town lacked adequate fire protection. Estimated loss stands at $2000 with minimal insurance. Feouller, known in Corey, had been selling wares locally.

Ridgway Man Killed in Hit Run Crash Near Ridgway
United Press reports a Ridgway man Thomas Mysys was killed when his truck overturned after a car struck it. His small son escaped injury as the auto fled. State patrols arrested a suspect in DuBois shortly after. drivers left for Dubois to recover Mysys as he was en route to Ridgway when the collision occurred on a curve three miles south of here.

Graveling of Sciota Street Starts Today
Graveling of the Sciota stretch from the Sciota church to the Corry city line began today with an army of trucks. A North East firm held the contract and nine large trucks hauled gravel from the Laye gravel bank at North Gorry. The project aims for a 14 inch layer this year and asphalt dressing in the Spring, with work moving toward Beanis Corners and a straighter curve at the Sciota church. About twenty-five men are on the job in three shifts, planning further progress this year and early Spring completion.
