Hrs Lee Smith Dies in Philadelphia

The body of Little Lindsley Smith arrives from Corry for funeral services in Philadelphia. She died Sunday December 27 after two weeks ill with influenza. Survived by husband Lee L Smith two daughters Mrs Bruce Christen and Mrs Charles Gower, a brother Leon Lindsley and five grandchildren.

Government refunds $65 million to taxpayers for 1931

The Treasury sent Congress a list showing $360,000,000 in tax refunds for the 1931 fiscal year. Prairie Pipe Line Company of Independence Kansas led refunds with $1,784,000 followed by Prairie Oil and Gas with $681,000. Other large refunds included Tinuis Central Railroad $1,158,675 and United Verde Copper $1,047,999.

New Airmail Route Across Continent Announced

Pittsburgh reports that a new airmail link from New York to Los Angeles will inaugurate January 1, reducing travel time by a full business day and about ten percent of transport costs. Uncle of missing college girl ends life in Jamestown building

A vacant room in the Elliott building yielded the body of Scott H. Penfield a Jamestown business man and uncle of Clare Penfield whose daughter Virginie disappeared recently en route home from Philadelphia Penfield died by his own hand Sunday night. Man Dies After Accidental Shooting In Braddock

John Hohman aged 45 of Pittsburgh was accidentally shot last Wednesday by friend David Bennett in Braddock near Pittsburgh. Hohman died at Braddock General Hospital. Bennett is held on $2500 bail on aggravated assault and battery charges as detectives describe the event as accidental.
