A Greyhound bus overturned on an icy I 5 stretch between Grants Pass and Medford Oregon killing 12 passengers and injuring 20 others. The Spokane to San Francisco bound bus had 33 aboard at Portland departure with nine dead at the scene and three later. Driver Joseph Bailey of Battle Ground Washington survived in good condition. Corry state police investigated two crashes in the last 24 hours along Route 6 east of Corry. A 48 year old Detroit man towing a second car collided with a westbound vehicle causing no injuries and $50 damage. A Union City driver ran off the road near the Y west of Columbus hitting a utility pole. he was uninjured and both car and pole suffered $80 damage with reckless driving charges pending.
Judges named Samuel Migliaccio residence at 1312 West Pleasant Street best among 18 homes in the Christmas lighting contest. Migliaccio family wins $50 first prize. George Downey home at 230 East Pleasant Street gets $20 second prize. Honorable mention $5 awards go to W. A. Leaby 113 East Frederick Street Mary Pless 130 Johnson Street Howard Dingfelder 404 West Washington Street George Taylor 235 East South Street John K 220 King Street and Al Messenger Sixth Street and Shady Avenue. Ned Johnston, sponsor from Corry Life Underwriters Association, noted many homes considered by judges. Judges toured city in Bracken Funeral Home wagon. Judges were Ramsey Rogers Thomas Shupe Peck J. A 27 year old Centerville man, Joseph Wishnok, is in critical condition at Titusville Hospital after his car struck the 92nd car of a northbound Pennsylvania Railroad freight train near Mystic Park crossing in Titusville. Police say the impact threw the car 51 feet and Wishnok landed 27 feet from the point of impact. Railroad police are investigating with statements pending. the crossing lacks lights and has a history of fatal crashes.

Jabara 21 St. Clair Shores Michigan who was hospitalized in satisfactory condition.
Police raided what they called a shoplifters store and seized merchandise valued at 525,000. Three women and a man were arrested while six shoppers were released. Assistant Detective Chief Michael A. Amico said the goods were stolen from Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo and nearby communities and sold about 50 percent below retail, including dresses, fur-trimmed sweaters and coats, jewelry and watches.
