Hoover Budget Paradox Spurs Taxpayer Clash
The article contrasts President Hoover’s repeated pledges of strict cuts with a looming 1932 83 budget of 1.848 billion dollars, up from 1.568 billion in 1928 29, citing New York Times analysis of growing Army Navy aid aviation and merchant marine costs amid a deepening deficit and calls for drastic economies. It argues the administration seeks more spending despite private sector belt tightening and suggests a budget rollback to 1924 levels could cut 606 million dollars.

The Public Ledger notes the season’s record size raises questions on hunter fitness, data that may push next session to adopt an oral exam on hunting law and firearm knowledge, plus possible calibre limits on rifles.
