Traffic toll climbs in state with October totals
The Bureau of Highway Safety reports 167 traffic fatalities in October on Pennsylvania highways and turnpike, bringing ten month total to 1,930 versus 1,324 last year. October 1953 shows 106 rural, 55 urban and six turnpike deaths, compared with 98 rural, 57 urban and nine turnpike deaths in October 1952. Pedestrian deaths fall to 51 in October from 58 in 1952.

Man Cleared in Murder Charge After Police Shooting
George Lint Jr., 24, of Dawson, Pa, was found innocent by a Fayette County jury after deliberating about 1% hours in the shooting of his former wife’s aunt. The state had sought the death penalty. Lint testified the gun went off accidentally when his wife Kathleen 19 reached for it during a July 24 altercation at her parents home in Liberty. The bullet killed Virginia Williams 49 of Dawson.
