Columbus Boy's Sculpture Wins Place at Fair
Frank Vincent Patrick's white terra cotta sculpture California, Son of the Sea was accepted and exhibited at the Payne County Fair in September 1990. He is working on a red terra cotta piece The Angel Mermaid representing Los Angeles where he has lived since 1995. His studio is at 48 South Westmoreland and is called The Red Tower.

Sussex County Faces 1940 Budget At 1 135 000
County officials estimate a 1940 budget of 3 135 000 to be submitted to the county commissioners after the new year. County Controller Harvey M. Wills says the current seven mill tax rate will stay. The law requires approval 30 days before adoption and public inspection for 20 days prior to final adoption. Tax cards for 1940 will be mailed late April with payments due by May 31 without penalty.

Johnsonburg Truck Driver Injured in City Collision
Bernard Shultz of Johnsonburg, driver of a Yellow a Black store truck, was seriously injured when his truck collided with a coal truck near Market and Center streets in Ridgway yesterday afternoon. He was unconscious with facial injuries and admitted to Kaul Memorial Hospital in St Marys.

City Schools Begin Christmas Vacation
City schools close for the Christmas recess with classes suspended this afternoon until after New Year. Vacation ends January 1 and classes resume the following morning.
