Blast and Fire at Aero Supply Plant Injures Three
Two workers were burned and one seriously hurt in an explosion and fire at the Aero Supply Manufacturing Company on West Main Street yesterday afternoon. Norman Ferguson, 39, of 421 Fifth Avenue, is in Corry hospital with serious burns to the chest arms and face. James Blakeslee of East Main Street suffered less serious burns and is recovering at home. The cause appears linked to gasoline used in the testing room above the boiler room. The plant’s sprinkling system helped prevent greater damage valued at about $1,500. The incident is being investigated.

Christmas sales rise nationwide amid boom in 1939
A United Press survey shows shoppers across the nation spending five to 15 percent more than last year with some southern and western areas reporting record Christmas sales. Extra dividends and larger paychecks from improved business are blamed for freer spending and better quality purchases, while warm weather boosts turnout in many regions.
