York Street Residents Push for Answers at City Council

About 25 York Street homeowners pressed the council for relief from sewer work and mud as repairs proceed. The council promised crushed rock fill, quick reopening, alley inspections, emergency access, and full repair of any damage before payment. They approved three 1978 operating and salary ordinances, and eyed funding a crossing guard for St Thomas School shared by city and district.

Iran quake devastates villages amid freezing pre dawn cold

An 8.2 magnitude quake struck Kooh Khanook near Zarand and Kerman in southeastern Iran destroying three villages Babtangal Gisk and Sarasiyah-Bagh. It left thousands homeless with at least 900 dead and 600 injured, as rescue efforts faced cold weather and water shortages. Iran’s Red Cross and Red Lion and Sun coordinated aid while Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi ordered cargo planes carrying blankets tents and supplies. By afternoon 660 injured were taken to hospitals by train and helicopter.

Youth Confesses In Double Farmhouse Slaying

A 14 year old boy from Otto, New York reportedly confessed to shooting elderly dairy farmer Ward J Pratt, 70, and his wife Irene, 68. The double murder occurred Friday evening. their bodies were found Saturday by their son-in-law. Autopsy set death around Friday evening. Police recovered a 22 caliber pistol and a 12 gauge shotgun near the scene. The motive remains unclear and the boy’s name is withheld due to age.

Americans Getting Fat Study Finds Weight Gains Across Genders

A government study from the National Center for Health Statistics reports that since the early 1960s, men and women of varying heights gained 1 to 14 pounds on average. Taller individuals showed greater increases, with men peaking weight between 33 and 44 and women until 55 to 64, based on 13,600 subjects surveyed from 1971 to 1974.

Snow Storm Delays Salvation Army Kettle Efforts

The Salvation Army kettle fundraiser in San Antonio is slowed by a recent snow storm.
