Corry Savings and Loan announces a semi annual dividend of 3 percent to about 1 000 stockholders as of December 1st the total payout this year reaching 47000 with 24689 distributed in the current dividend and the remainder from June earnings Directors approved at this weeks meeting Homer G Bulard manager notes the plant to power Army portable atomic facility to be built by American Locomotive Co.
Corry Memorial Hospital moves to enforce collection on overdue accounts after reporting a five month loss of 23 094 with an operating income of 103 447 and expenses of 126 540 Donations and non operating income reduce the net loss to 12 465 Delinquent accounts exceed 15 000 and will be sent to Erie County Credit Exchange for forced collection with 60 day unpaid accounts. Directors and finance committee plus city leaders attended the noon meeting.
A nationwide Safety Day records six early traffic deaths in the first hours with accidents in Ohio Pennsylvania Massachusetts Indiana and South Carolina and eleven in Cook County. President Eisenhower calls for an unblemished safety record while the National Safety Council cites about 27 000 daily motor vehicle accidents last year and 97 daily deaths in the first ten months of this year.
President Eisenhower backs a new military training plan to strengthen reserves. Youths aged 17 and 18 face six months of training or draft after 19 with six years reserve duty. Details set to be released by Secretary Wilson. plan mirrors earlier UMT concepts with shifts to expand reserve readiness. Also reports a separate fatal stab incident in Connellsville, Pa, involving a sailor from Dickinson Run.

The Corry Jaycees elected four new directors at a meeting in the Municipal Building. New board members are Milton Chorry, Howard Lee, Richard Martin, and Frank Anthony. Officers named: Frank Anthony president, Milton Ghatsy vice president, Richard Martin secretary, John Kennedy treasurer. The group reported a toy drive yielding many usable toys and planned next week’s distribution.
An accidental death finding was issued for Sallie Wood a 21 200 year old government analyst at the Nu Hond Heclility Agency in an Arlington Virginia apartment shooting. Coroner De Welburn stated the verdict would stand with no contrary evidence and investigators continue to seek answers.
The Journal notes publication of city assessment notices and public access for property owners to compare their figures with others. About 250 special appeal blanks were taken, over 25 returned, as the City Council reviews amendments to reduce assessments.
Morning weather prompted the two way bus service between Corry Area High School and outlying districts. Six riders initially, rising to 53 in the 80 passenger bus, with 10 more students boarding at the new high school entrance on Wright Street. The program serves grades 7-12 to the new school and grades 3-6 to Wright Street, started Monday due to parent concerns about long walks.
