House Set To Back Social Security Boost
Washington AP reports the House plans easy passage and Senate approval for a bill sharply raising Social Security benefits and taxes. It would raise minimum payments from 44 to 55 dollars and maximum from 142 to 160.50, with wives over 65 receiving 60 percent in addition. The tax cap would reach 52.40 in 1968 and rise in later years. House conferees agreed with the Senate on a compromise, trimming higher figures, and the measure is expected to win quick approval in the Senate.
