Erie resident Eric Shafer, 44, was found dead of a coronary occlusion in Pittsfield Township after a hunting companion reported him missing. State Police at Warren identify the death and coroner notes the time of the missing person report as about 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Robert Lee Lassiter admitted using a borrowed match to start a fire at the Seeley Club on West Madison Street in Chicago. The blaze killed 13 and injured 22 as Lassiter, 26, faced 13 counts of murder. He said he acted after being thrown out.
A Saturday morning incident on Summer Street led to an unexpected tractor pull when a man claimed his car was out of control and needed help. he paid the rescuer after the car was moved. Later a farmer reported a hunting party trespassed at 5 30 p m and found his dog shot to death behind the barn.
A Union City couple Merle Clute and Hazel Clute were injured when their auto struck the rear of a truck driven by J Beeman in Nort East Township. Beeman’s vehicle had entered the highway from a gas station without lights, according to state police. They were treated at Union City Memorial Hospital.
Neil E. Stutzman, 33, of R D 3 Corry, died at Corry Memorial Hospital after a Columbus Clymer road crash in heavy fog. He was trapped after his car ran off the road, rolled twice, and struck a school bus shelter, with damage about 1900 dollars. He left a wife Donna and four children Laurie Jean Michael Rickie and Daniel. He was born in Davenport Nebraska and lived in Beaverdam and Corry. Mennonite Church member.
Evelyn Sinare, 78 West Columbus Avenue, Corry, is cited for shoplifting from a Lakewood store. She will appear before Justice E. Robert Bootey at 7 p.m. on larceny charges after being arrested by Officer Joseph Stelmack Jr. and released on $50 bail.
