Penny trains faced repeated delays as engine failures blocked routes on the Buffalo and Philadelphia divisions. Train 54 and 64 failed to arrive on time, with No. 82 from Buffalo delayed near the city due to stalled freight trains in a storm, disrupting the Buffalo division schedule.
The Warren National Bank promotes banking by mail with a 4 percent interest rate in its Interest Department. Deposits made in the first three days of the month earn interest from the month’s start, and deposits by the fifteenth receive half a month’s interest. Interest is credited June 1 and December 1 if the deposit lasts at least three months. No strict minimums, but frequent checking or bill payments are encouraged.
Special dispatches from Constantinople say a nightlong naval clash between Greek and Turkish forces left heavy losses on both sides. Greek forces reportedly gained ground near the city of Janina after days of fighting, with Turkish forces pushed toward Janina’s approach, and surrender appeared imminent. Delegates to the peace conference arrived in London as Bulgarian, Turkish, Serbian, and Greek delegates took positions around the city.
The Chamber of Commerce hosts a meeting this evening at Common Council rooms to discuss city issues. Erie Board of Trade President Meuyn is slated to speak and bolster progressive efforts to revive activity and boost the coming year's plans.
In East Toronto two women fought near Eightys AfiKtreet and Columbus Avenue. Mrs. Catherine Harbeson and Mrs. Helen Renner struggled for a .38 revolver amid a crowd. Harbeson fired twice but missed. Renner wrestled the weapon, and the pair fled into the street. The weapon changed hands amid confusion as a taxi drove off.
Nybone Corset Company plans to occupy the Hue office room in the Ajax building next April. The move will consolidate operations with the plant, with the local office managing business for both facilities. The change eases worries about relocation and strengthens Corry’s business presence.
L H Pasqualicchio, appointed probation officer for Corry, has compiled a draft curfew proposal for council action. The plan would require all children under sixteen to be off streets after nine PM unless with a parent or guardian. Some council members express cautious support, with a vote likely at the next Monday meeting.
The Alden-Ragon Company will boost Mind At Nelson's Run Pennsylvania output to about two hundred tons daily with a new Shortwall electric mining machine set to operate this week after replacing a broken main belt. The firm is routing all local mine output through its office and has coal for months, planning to meet orders locally and elsewhere. The Corry coal dealers advertise a Motherhood calendar produced with coal from the Alden-Ragon suppliers, sent to manufacturers and retail customers alike.
Harrisburg reports the prohibition bill to be submitted to the next Legislature by Rep. Job Matt of Bedford with endorsement from the Prohibition State Committee. The measure would allow districts to vote on prohibition. it differs from the last session’s option.
A four story apartment known as the library burned in Pittsburgh on December 13. Fire crews saved more than 210 tenants, with several dragged from windows and others injured by a falling cornice. The $200,000 loss affected residents' personal property and many women were rescued from the fourth story.
