A U.S. senator warns that American financial support to the United Nations may be cut to pressure action against subversives. The senator singles out the State Department for responsibility, arguing costs funded by U.S. taxpayers should drive U.N. reforms.
Senator Alexander Wiley warned the United Nations may lose U S funding if security gaps persist. He faulted the State Department for inadequate oversight and called for tighter measures against subversives among U N staff. The U S shares about one third of U N financing and has contributed over 500 million dollars since 1946. The American delegation offered no comment.
