New con game swindle targets Allegany hotel guest
A penniless stranger calling himself Wilson posed as a trusted guest at the Hotel Sinneatt in Allegany, engaging the owner in a sham protection scheme. He passed a six dollar check as a ruse, then vanished after the hotel learned others had been duped by a similar Wilson. A bank alerted to the fraudulent checks described a short, stocky man in a gray overcoat and black shoes, about six feet tall and 150 pounds.
