Pennsylvania considers statewide energy conservation code bill
A proposed Pennsylvania General Assembly measure would set a statewide energy building conservation code with minimum insulation and efficiency standards. Rep Ivan Itkin expects up to 35 percent energy savings in new or renovated buildings and 14 percent in private homes with substantial renovations. The bill would create a Building Energy Conservation Committee and enforce standards through Labor and Industry and Community Affairs. Violations could bring fines up to 300 dollars and three months in jail. Existing buildings are exempt unless heavily renovated.
