UN Leader Ralph Bunche Dead At 67

Ralph Johnson Bunche 67 undersecretary general of the United Nations and 1950 Nobel Peace Prize laureate died in New York Hospital at 12 40 a m after months of illness. Bunche helped mediate the 1949 Palestine conflict and oversaw UN operations in the Congo in 1960. He played a key role in 1956 Palestine negotiations after the Suez crisis. Bunche was the highest ranking American in the UN Secretariat and a civil rights advocate.
