City officials and the mayor, with the City Clerk, met in an informal session lasting until midnight to review the 1915 appropriation ordinance. As budget planning continues, no definite agreement was reached on next year’s financial needs. Departments will submit estimates and a conclusion will be reached before final annual appropriations are prepared and made public.
A large contingent from the local Knights Templar heads to Briodla for a fraternity footing this afternoon and evening. A special Franklin and OM City train, carrying the local party, is scheduled to pass through about three o clock with return expected at eleven tonight.
United Press dispatches from The Hague report Kaiser Wilhelm II seriously ill with pneumonia. While the Kaiser is unable to command at the front, German forces push anew toward Warsaw from the north. London notes revolts in South Africa, and Berlin claims offensives in the east with defense in the west. Additional items cite Nobel prize delay and Dover bombings by German aviators.
United Preps dispatch from Pottsville reports a husband shot by his wife as he returned home intoxicated. The wife wrestled the gun away, killing him. the couple had six children. One son attends the University of Pennsylvania and another is a Dickinson Law School student.
Thirteen men lose lives in a mine shaft accident at the Tripp shaft on the Lackawanna properties. A dynamite stick exploded, throwing the men to the shaft floor and bottom. One survivor clung to an iron bar as the lift cage failed, and officials claim overcrowding may have contributed plus four men may have been trapped by the ascending cage.
United Press reports Creasy faces strong challenge from James MacSpurren and E. P Dorsett as 45 new Granges formed in Pounselvanm during the year. State delegates totaling about 1500 will vote tomorrow on Grand Master position with Creasy seeking a majority amid routine morning sessions and broader races for office.
New York December 8 Former American ambassador Myrox T Herrick arrived in New York aboard the French liner Hiner Rovlambeau. A business delegation from 644, and for hundred mum- Nera of the Ohio Society met him at the pier. Herrick refused to discuss his world tour, saying the press would hear only from others in France. The meeting, led by the French consul, sparked talk of a Republican presidential nomination in 1916.
Leo Frank, convicted of murder, was resentenced to death today after a failed bid for review by the United States Supreme Court. Authorities set January 22 for the execution.
State Fish Commissioner Nf Buller left Harrinburg for Erie to review aquarium installation at the Erle plant with Supt Wu Mam Builds. He announced next year will see a new hatchery house identical to the current brick structure and employee dwelling, with further additions, subject to appropriation approval.
United Press reports the White House denied any shift in U S policy on Mexico. The brief stated President's office asserted the move to strengthen forces at the border was not a policy change but a response to Mexican factions across the river and their rifle fire.
City Solicitor Kincaid returned from Erie and discussed with County Commissioners the January special election to fill the council seat vacated by C L Alexander. Nomination papers must be filed at least three weeks before the primary, so papers for the vacancy are due by next Tuesday. Possible candidates include J W Olds and Fred Weaver, who have not yet refused to permit their names. Nomination papers require twenty five signatures.
United Press dispatch from Grand Rapids reports two wealthy manufacturers George Hrundt and William Viet killed when their auto overturned on Lake Boulevard. Their bodies were not found at first and were located beneath the wrecked machine this morning after the crash.
