Six people were hospitalized after a head on collision on Route 6 east of Union City. Six identified as Celine Schlimm 41 St Marys and passengers and David Lyons 39 Union City and Kimberly Lyons 12 Union City. A one car crash on Route 426 east of Corry injured Amy Mitchel of Corry. Burglary at Gerald Hepler’s Corry home yielded cash.
Washington AP report says United Mine Workers president Arnald Miller predicts a nationwide coal strike will begin at midnight. He states there is no chance to avoid the walkout and that talks with Bituminous Coal Operators Association are not good. Over 2,200 miners in Ohio and West Virginia were off the job as a warning of the strike, which would be the tenth UMW walkout in 40 years. Miller spoke as bargaining for the expiring contract continued with federal mediator Wayne J. Horwitz noting hard problems remain to be resolved.
