Danville August 1 George Spaid flying instructor in critical condition after an airplane crash that killed Mawin Gearhart a student pilot from Altoona. The two seater went down on a Bogers Hill farm five miles south of Sunbury. Gearhart died instantly, Spaid had fractures and injuries.
Washington Aug 31 Naval officials said the United States would delay pulling two warships from Spanish waters due to yesterday’s bombardment of the destroyer Kane. Five armed American vessels will remain along the Spanish coast as officials assess the protest against the bombing and the impact on U.S. neutrality in Spain’s civil war. Secretary of State Cordell Hull emphasized the plane misidentified Kane as an enemy ship, and the United States warned Spain and General Franco to protect American lives and property.

A minor automobile accident near the Hotel Carry occurred yesterday forenoon injuring occupants of two bars. Vehicles driven by Stanley Vin Tassel of R. D. 4 and Lucy M. Fouts of 710 Linwood Ave Cleveland were involved. the Cleveland car was struck while parked in front of the Hotel Corry where baggage was being loaded. Damages to both cars are about 25 dollars each.
A Venango County report says nine automobile collisions occurred in 36 hours over the weekend. Mrs. Philip Tubis of Philadelphia was the most seriously injured when the couple’s car crashed into a left turning vehicle without signaling.
