Kenneth Laird, 23, was arrested in St Marys Pennsylvania after an early morning attempted robbery of the Ben Franklin Restaurant. A masked man with a 12 gauge shotgun ordered patrons to the back, but fled after an upstairs sighting. Laird confessed after police grilling and was seized by night officer Grosser.
Warren County commissioners J A Lagerdahl M Brady and H P Ridelsperger said they will proceed to nullify the action taken about two months ago when they signed a contract with Samuel Wilan of Clarion and Lenmell Schoffield of Philadelphia for the collection of back personal taxes in Warren County.
Aug. 30 James MacCullum an Emporiien man is placed in the state hospital at Warren for a 30 day observation pending police questioning over the shooting deaths of his wife Mrs. MacCullum and her son Charles Tilbury. The son died at once in an Emporia candy shop and the mother died at St Marys Hospital after a neck and jaw injury from a bullet allegedly fired by her husband.
WPA officials approve a $850 000 Erie streetcar track improvement plan with no tax money spent. The project will remove all steel rails and repair street surfaces, modernizing the city transit system. In Pippin Ohio, Beryl Eun age 29 a mechanic, married Alma Bean and cried that her mother had kidnapped the bride.
The governor said he is instructing Attorney General Charles Margiotti and counsel Richard J. Beam to present the charter to the federal trade commission. The statement notes ongoing federal and state investigations into open and secret service contracts between the AG and its Pennsylvania affiliates including Metropolitan Edison Northern Pennsylvania Power Pennsylvania Electric Wire Lighting Solar Electric Clarion River Power Penelec Water Garlan Water and Reading coach and street railway companies.
