A Baltimore and Ohio passenger train and a Chicago to Jersey City express collided near Connellsville station. Fifty one people were injured, including 25 passengers and seven crew. One hospitalized victim, 80 year old Kate Michel of Connellsville, suffered a possible skull fracture. Both locomotives were derailed but no cars overturned. Engineers C. Allen of Hyndman and Charles Jones of West Mifflin suffered minor injuries. Thirteen admitted to Connellsville Hospital. rest treated in Pittsburgh.

Camp Atterbury in Indiana will host Pennsylvania’s 28th Infantry Division and later World War II units as they enter Federal service.
