Join J Lynch wealthy executive and head of General News Street was abducted Thursday by a six to seven man gang. They demanded a ransom of 250000 and confined him for about a week, then released him near Lake Geneva Wisconsin. He described being blindfolded and moved by car, kept in a room with stories about gangs. Investigators continued to pursue the mastermind who circulated the ransom.
Morgantown West Virginia August 27 1937 Secretary of Agriculture Hyde said the drought stricken northwestern states would receive livestock feed loans to farmers. In Scotts Run the guard A J Richardson was freed after being arrested for allegedly striking a 18 year old who tried to enter company property. William Codesky was arrested on a felonious assault charge with bond set at 1000 dollars.
On August 27 at the White House President Hoover hosted four leading New York bankers. Attending were William Potter of Guaranty Trust, Charles McCain of Chase National, George Davison of Hanover Bank and Trust, and James Lee of Chase. Eugene Meyer, governor of the Federal Reserve Board, arranged the meeting. Harrisburg Aug 27 Dr William D Gordon secretary of banking for Pennsylvania granted a 30 day extension to the depositors committee seeking to reorganize the closed Bankers Trust Company of Philadelphia The decision delivered in a letter to Sidney J Burgoyne chair of the committee representing about 80 percent of depositors and stockholders delays a final ruling on whether the bank will be reorganized and reopened or its assets liquidated Gordon noted appeals from a minority committee and others urging a reserve of decision He said the committee must work to raise funds for the financial setup needed for reopening and must submit proposed officers and directors for his approval at the end of the period
Philadelphia police held two suspects for questioning in the previous day tobacco theft involving a truckload valued at about 30 000. The trio abducted driver Joseph Burgy and forced the cargo joint to Marlton before the capture. Suspects Harry Benny and Joe Bernstein, both 27 from Philadelphia, and driver Burgy 26 are linked to the case.
Lancaster police held Harold Jacks, 16, of Pittsburgh, pending arrival of Pittsburgh authorities who seek to question him about the shooting of Carl Gaertner, 15, also of Pittsburgh. They planned to run away with a revolver for protection. the weapon discharged, Gaertner was seriously hurt and Jacks disappeared from Pittsburgh.
A city bus went into a ditch near the Shreve home on Union Byway shortly after eight last night. The bus lost its dampers but was not badly damaged and all passengers escaped unharmed.

At Marquette State Prison in Michigan on August 27 a riot in the hospital left two prison officials and at least four inmates dead. Officials said four convicts blinded by fear of capture killed themselves after barricading a factory yard, as guards used machine guns and gas. Names include Dr. A. W. Hornbogen and George Hurley. prisoners Andrew Sermano, Harry Rustum, Martin Diver, and an unnamed man.
M J Cummings son of Mir and Mrs W H Cummings of Beaverdam is named assistant police chief in Johnson City. Nir Cummings, known in Beaverdam and Carryam area, has spent two and a half years with the Johnson City park force. Local officials praise the promotion as part of the city police department’s advancement and praise his active role in the department.
