Earl Christy 3 of Dunkirk suffered multiple fractures and scalp injuries when an eastbound Nickel Plate freight struck his tractor trailer at a crossing in Dunkirk New York. Gate operator Robert Windsor admitted he was late in lowering the gates after being notified the train was approaching. The crash occurred as engineer Willis Makepeace applied brakes but could not stop the St car freight before impact.
