It Was East For Solomon Case Solved By Officials

Police and officials settled a vandalism case linking four defendants at 618 West Washington. John Amacher Robert Bemis John Lank and John S Peterson agreed to pay restitution totaling 151.00 and 9 court costs each after hearings led by Alderman Cobbett Police Chief Drake and Attorney William Peiffer. A fifth man testified against one defendant.

Tragic Farm Truck Crash Kills 7 Year-Old Near Corry

A 7 year old Corry boy died after a farm truck toppled on Lindsey Hollow Road while being driven by his 15 year old sister Suzanne. He was crushed beneath the vehicle and died at Corry Memorial Hospital. Deputy Coroner Bracken ruled the death accidental due to internal injuries as heavy rain fell. Trooper Krupa said the truck veered onto a slope during a downhill left turn into the family driveway. The vehicle carried about 40 bushels of bulk wheat and was retrieved by family members with a tractor.

Corry Seeks 10,850 In Liquid Fuels Funds For City Roads

Corry city engineer filed a request with Erie County commissioners for 10,850 dollars in liquid fuels tax money to widen curb and straighten curves on six streets. If approved, the city would widen and resurface East Pleasant, King and Maple streets, install a storm sewer on Shady avenue, and straighten curves on East Washington and Pennsylvania avenues. Commissioner Hill voiced full support, with no expected objections from Lamberton or Raymek.

Wayne Township zoning meeting settles on ordinance changes

A small group of Wayne Township residents attended a planning commission and supervisor session at Five Points to review a proposed zoning ordinance. No major changes were proposed as the two boards debated the draft along with public input following a prior nationwide turnout. Hurricane Cleo veered toward southeast Florida with gale warnings from Sombrero Light to Fort Lauderdale as 64 dead are reported.

Theft of $6,000 clothing as bystanders refuse to report

In Washington Pennsylvania a thief broke a station wagon window and stole $6,000 worth of suits and top coats while three witnesses watched. All refused to report the crime with one saying he did not want to become involved. The clothing belonged to a traveling salesman.

Reminders on Status of Two Tax Bills

City Treasurer Carlton Smith said August 31 is the last day residents can pay school taxes and receive the rebate. After that date, payments accrue face value for two months. November 1 adds a five percent penalty. The general tax duplicates show shortfalls: property tax $367 405 with $151 365 unpaid. Corry residents owe $215 840. per capita duplicate $29 702 with $18 789 still due. per capita taxpayers have paid $10 913.
