Rioters in Saigon Jug and Da Nang sack and burn buildings in the worst anti American outbreak since last summer. In Da Nang more than 1,000 youths stone a U S enlisted men’s barracks. a grenade injures three and a later blast kills a woman. Americans fire shots to scatter mobs.
The National Negro Republican Assembly says it will not back either Barry Goldwater or President Johnson. George G. Fleming of East Lane New Jersey was named president as about 50 Negro leaders gathered in Philadelphia. The group plans a Washington meeting on September 19.
John P. Amacher of 136 York street pled not guilty to a malicious mischief charge about damage to a vacant house at 618 West Washington owned by Mrs. J. R. Dearing. Frank L. Miles of Spring Creek implicated Amacher, saying he threw a brick after Miles advised against it. Miles left after Amacher said it was none of Miles’ business. A hearing before Alder man M. S. Cobbett was scheduled for tomorrow morning.
Police in Titusville broke up a riot near Scheide Park involving about 90 youths and 65 Canadian drum and bugle corps members. Joseph Zdarko, 20, of Titusville, was arrested for disorderly conduct after taunting Negro marchers from Rochester and the Commanders of Toronto Hamilton. Disturbance spread to the YMCA area. police ordered youths off streets and confined corps members to the YMCA pending further action.
A 4 year old escaped injury when a freight train crushed the front of a 1963 sedan at a crossing west of Lotisville. James G. Miller, 19, was eastbound on Route 57 and could not reverse in time as the northbound train passed, causing 1500 dollars in damage but no injuries. Six of 24 injured in a Verona drum corps bus crash are in satisfactory condition at Canonsburg General Hospital. The bus overturned on Route 519 Saturday night returning from a Canonsburg parade. Eighteen others, mostly youths aged 13 to 20, received minor injuries and were released.
