Two Pennsylvania National Guardsmen, David Weeks and Curtis Redder, were wounded while off duty at Indiantown Gap during annual maneuvers. Weeks was shot in the left thigh, Redder in the left hand, as they defended a steep slope beyond warning flags. They were cared for at the scene and then taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon. War games continued with regular Army troops, involving corps from Pine Camp and a mock center of resistance on a ridge, as the blue and gray forces clashed in night and dawn maneuvers.
Owen Ful lom sustained facial injuries in an auto crash at 1 30 pm on West Columbus avenue near the Country club road. His car left the highway after skidding on the wheels, and he was brought back to the city for treatment at Dr J C Kibler s office. His nose was badly cut and he has a bruised chest from striking the steering wheel.
United Press reports a gang led by Donald Eberle confessed to more than 500 crimes including a Cleveland murder. Helen Harman, 19, confessed aiding in the slayings. Eberle claimed self defense in a prior case. John Pryor and Charles Gordon admitted involvement in numerous Chicago robberies.

A concurrent resolution passed without record vote after Senate approval was sought to adjourn sine die on Aug 24, with the House then recessing briefly before final clearance of several must pass measures pending White House fate.

Fire destroyed a house and barn northeast of Union City when a threshing machine ignited. Smoke was visible from Beavers Dam and Proctor Hill as motorists observed the blaze. Damages and exact amount remain unclear.
