Thousands visit Titusville for the diamond jubilee of oil celebrated at Drake Well site. A pageant, parade of 80 floats, and expected 50 thousand visitors mark the four day events honoring Colonel Edwin Drake and the birth of the petroleum industry. Drakes’ associate Sam Smith, last survivor connected to the Drake well, died recently at 87. Governors Pinchot and White, and Interior Secretary E. A. Weeks attend.

Auto crash near Alexander farm injures five
Two cars collided on Hare Creek road near the Alexander farm about 8 40 this morning. Mrs Mary Alexander and her companion Jack Baker were injured along with Donald Neylon and Norman Wdinger. Mrs Alexander suffered three fractured ribs and shock. Baker had shoulder injuries. Neylon and Wdinger escaped with minor injuries. Edinger, sole occupant of the other car, was shaken but not seriously hurt. The Alexander car occupants alleged Edinger drove on the left side.

In Columbia Pennsylvania a tense scene unfolded as about 300 striking workers including many women seized Sheriff Daniel F Shumian of Lancaster County and 12 deputies, detaining them for over six hours at a Mariotts Silk Company plant using bricks clubs and stones as weapons. Farmer Alexander Skiff Dies From Postinjury Infection
Alexander Skiff an 80 year old Spartansburg resident died at Curry Hospital after an injury sustained working a mowing machine on Monday led to a gangrenous infection. He died Thursday night after operations failed to halt the spread. Survived by three sons Roy Orris Ward and a daughter Mrs William Henry. Funeral services set for Saturday at 10 in Spartansburg with burial in East Branch cemetery.
