United Press report from Hollywood notes Will Rogers was laid in state at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with thousands of common people paying final respects before later services for the famed humorist. Dignitaries would attend 2 P M ceremonies, but early mourners viewed the closed casket kept at widow Betty Blake Rogers request amid reports of only slight injuries in the Alusian air crash that killed Wiley Post.

The governor’s office says five federal relief checks totaling 4.5 million dollars arrived for Pennsylvania unemployment relief. August federal funds brought the state total to 12,370,600 dollars. The legislature also approved 4 million dollars for August relief funds.
Oscar Wurster a 56 year old messenger for the Liberal Savings and Logan Co reports he was robbed of 1685 by two men on a downtown street today. He said the men struck him twice and took a wallet containing the money.

Allen is survived by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
Philadelphia Aug. 2 A step toward revising the state constitution was taken with eight sub committees appointed to draft outlines of proposed changes. The committees were named by the governor’s committee on committees during a meeting led by Chairman William A Schnader former attorney general. Submissions are due by Sept 9 and recommendations will be made public soon after. Schnader urged voters to see why revision is needed ahead of the Sept 17 ballot on calling a constitutional convention.
Two men were killed and three wounded today in a candy store gun battle in Newark. Police sought three men in a black sedan with Hudson county plates. lottery tickets found suggest a local lottery ring. Wounded were taken to Newark City Hospital. A green sedan was reported stolen last March 30. Governor Earle named Herbert Sander of Pittsburgh to the State Industrial Board, replacing J. O. Keller whose term expired.
