One Killed and Five Hurt in Pittsburgh Car Crash

Pottsburgh Aug 21 two men were taken into custody for allegedly attempting blackmail in the Allegheny county courthouse. George Mongelism 25 and Thia gore Cozze 26 were arrested in a corridor after Harry Hall 34 a local produce merchant reported the incident to district attorney attaches hall said a receipt for 10 dated to Mongelia was produced as a souvenir of a prior blackmail attempt. charges of conspiracy and blackmail were filed and the pair were held for a hearing.

Liquor Seizures At Four City Joints Lead To Fines

City police under Chief Hy and Bullingnine raided four alleged bootlegging joints early today. Four arrests were made with hearings before Mayor Glen Miller. Joe Amoroso, 339 South Center street, had liquor seized. Joe Perry, West Washington street, two gallon jugs confiscated. George Ward, West Main street. Mrs John Amoroso, Spring street, half gallon. President Roosevelt to attend Rainey funeral service

President Roosevelt will lead a distinguished group of mourners at the funeral of Speaker Henry T. Rainey near Carrollton Illinois. The service will be at Walnut Hill after the body lies in state in Greene County courthouse rotunda. Rainey died Sunday night in St Louis of heart disease. Burial will be in the Rainey family plot. Roosevelt will then return to Washington and later go to Hyde Park.

Slicker Makes Getaway Here In Corry

Corry was visited by a man described as a slicker using the alias Rooney at Hotel Corry and Nilay in business dealings with local merchants. He offered a special encyclopedia sale and attempted to cash a check in the books firm name, prompting hotel inquiry and police action. He fled before officers could act. Bank of Erie Opens for Business in Harrisburg

Harrisburg reports that the Bank of Erie Trust Company has resumed normal operations under the name The Bank of Erie after completing reorganizaiton plans. Dr William D Gordon state secretary of banking announced the new institution carries capital of 200000 dollars, surplus 100000 dollars, undivided profits 13 dollars and deposits amounting to 836120 dollars.

Two Admit Part in Man's Death by Car
