Aero Supply Manufacturing Co announces end of all shifts today, shutting the plant for an indeterminate period as war contract cancellations surge. Uniontown Pa August 17 Mrs Garnet Beale receives news that her son 21 year old Flight Officer Wilham Schreck is the last Superfortress bombardier to drop bombs on Japan. She expresses happiness and pride at the achievement and says she looks forward to his safe return home.
German ammo ship explosion on an Oslo quayside killed at least 68 and injured hundreds. The blast damaged the Hock region, shattered windows in Oslo, and affected many businesses.
London Aug 17 The Moscow radio reported a treaty designates the Curzon Line as the Polish Soviet boundary with deviations in Poland’s favor. It covers compensation for German occupation damages and allows Poland about 110 kilometers east of the Curzon Line near the western Bug and Solokai rivers south of Brylow. The broadcast cites additional deviations east of the Curzon Line and Baltic Sea frontier alignment pending peace settlement ratification.
Joseph Macko of Columbus sustained burns over most of his body when kerosene oil ignited while he was tending a kitchen fire. The blaze destroyed the Macko home on the Muzzy ranch near Columbus. His family escaped with losses of belongings as Clymer Fire Department and emergency pumps responded. Macko remained in critical condition at Corry Hospital.
A car carrying Huntingdon county youths wrecked six miles north of Everett Pennsylvania. Dennis Moshey Robertsdale Theda Swope Dudley died. Driver Donald Bolling Wood fractured skull and serious injuries. Two survivors Thel Miller Robertadale and Cleona Swope 16 hospitalized in fair condition.

Confusion over the White House order and Truman's clarification caused earlier missteps. Industrial plants restart, with some industries expected to tighten tomorrow as closure rules ease nationwide.

In San Francisco on August 11 Prince Naruhiro Nigashi-Kuni was sworn in as Japan's premier. The War Ministry ordered a ceasefire to pursue peace while a postwar cabinet, led by a royal premier and including three members of the prior war cabinet, convened at Higashi-Kuni's residence. The new government marks the first cabinet formed by royal family members and the first without direct throne consultation.
A new City Line Auto Wreckers complex will rise on West Smith Street Route 6 beyond the city line. ACL Alsen will handle cement and masonry for a 50 by 100 foot building with full width glass display and a modern garage. The firm will offer radios refrigerators and other appliances plus auto hire sales and a service station.
Altoona Pennsylvania soldier Robert E Laws 24 a Maguire General Hospital patient will be awarded the Medal of Honor next week by President Truman for actions in an assault on pillboxes during January 13th. Laws was wounded by a hand grenade and cannot recall his specific deeds but is praised for his actions during the attack.
Five radio appeals were sent to allied leaders and prompt replies received. Envoys are expected to fail reaching Manila before Monday.
