Corry man John J. Lombard aged 45 died at Oil City hospital after being found unconscious along the Pennsylvania Railroad eight miles from Oil City yesterday morning with a bullet wound in the right temple. He had been in critical condition since admission, and the 32 caliber bullet proved fatal. Survived by wife Della and brother William P Lombard, with services set for Monday at St Thomas church and burial at St Elizabeth's cemetery.
Washington August 1 The Senate Judiciary Committee reviewed a wage tax plan proposed by the United States Chamber of Commerce. The plan would tax all wages and salaries withholdings to raise federal revenue, estimated around several billion dollars annually, and would redirect funds to treasury needs.
The American Legion called for a 30 month army service period and mandatory labor for draft objectors. Delegates urged citizenship loss for subversives, backed a federal veterans hospital in the eastern region, and selected Pillsbury and Wilkes-Barre for future conventions.
